Boars show true grit at Walcha to win in the rain

5th Jun 2014

It may not have been the score line they expected, however the Narrabri Blue Boars were left counting their blessings after the final whistle sounded at Walcha on Saturday.

Horrendous conditions made playing almost impossible, as the visiting Boars were able to hold out the Rams and come away with a 3-nil win to remain unbeaten on top of the ladder.

Boars’ fullback Michael Cain proved the difference between the two sides, kicking the only points of the match on the stroke of half-time.

There was a big sigh of relief from co-coach Tom Cullen after the match, in a game that had him on the edge of his seat for the full 80 minutes.

“It’s something I’ve never experienced before,” he said.

“It was a wet game and that seemed to be the defining factor throughout the match.”

The Boars struggled to gain control of the opening phases of the game, with frustrations boiling over to result in turnovers against the visitors.
